A Trip Down Discovery Lane with Jerry D.C. Nelson

I grew up in the small town of Brainerd, Minnesota, a resort area in the middle of 10,000 lakes, at that time, with a large railroad repair shop and a Paper Mill on the Mississippi.

Attending High School, I went from being on an Air Scout Troop in my freshman year to finishing my senior year in the National Guard. After a half of a year in College in Brainerd, the Koran War erupted, at which time I joined the U.S. Navy width seven other classmates. I attended one of the best Navy schools, a year of Electronic Training. I was then able to repair all the electronic equipment aboard the ship, including the electro-mechanical Teletype Machines. After three years on a Destroyer Escort in Key West, Florida, I was then discharged from the Navy.

I than moved to California to work for North American Aviation as a Radar Technician on the F-86 Sabre Jet aircraft. After one year I started college at Milwaukee School of Engineering for a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. After college I worked at UNIVAC Company (now UNISYS) as a designer for large frame computers where I used my expertise in both Electronics and Mechanics. I was married and had two children.

I then retired after 28 years with UNIAC. Now I spend most of my time with my hobbies, writing this book is one of them. I’ll sign off with my Navy name:
